Son of Lt. Col. Antonio Cerqueira Pinto and Ana Joaquina da Trindade, was born on the farm Magalhães, São Gonçalo dos Campos, November 12, 1819 (or 1820, according to Sá de Oliveira).
He graduated in medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, on 26 November 1842.
They were classmates: Braulio Alexandre Magalhães Taques and Antonio Cerqueira Pinto. Both were professors of the Faculty, and Alexander Taques died before occupying the chair (4).
He studied for three years in Europe.
He married Anna Fausta dos Santos Castro.
He was deputy provincial and lens replacement Subsidiary of Sciences Section (1855) and Chemistry and Mineralogy (1857). In 1858 he moved to the chair of Organic Chemistry, replacing Prof. Magellan Taques.
Memory wrote History of the Faculty, for the year 1864.
He retired in 1890, when he was succeeded by his son John Evangelista de Castro Cerqueira.
He was Director of the Medical School of Bahia, from 1891 to 1895.
Competent physician and humanitarian, rendered important services during the cholera epidemic morbo.
He died on October 17, 1895.
