Son of Joaquim Rodrigues and Rita Sophia Manoel Gomes de Lima.
Born in Caetité, Bahia.
He graduated in 1875 from the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia.
They were classmates: Domingos Guedes Cabral, Luiz Anselmo da Fonseca, and Antonio Romualdo Seixas. Domingos Guedes Cabral had his doctoral thesis rejected by the Congregation, which claimed "contain doctrines contrary to the official state religion." This was the first and only inaugural thesis rejected by the faculty. The other teachers of the Faculty (2).
After graduation, Anthony Roberts moved to Lima to Rio de Janeiro, where he had a brilliant career in private practice and in academia.
We Antônio Rodrigues de Lima was founded in 1904, the Maternity of the neighborhood of Laranjeiras, the first Maternity Teaching Hospital in Brazil. That belongs Motherhood, currently the Faculty of Medicine, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
He was director of said motherhood, which is a milestone in the history of obstetrics and child care in our country.
He married d. Josephina Leal, who bore him a son, also a physician and professor of Medicine: Octavio Rodrigues Lima.
Great health visitor and midwife, is considered the pioneer of maternal care in our country.
He died in Rio de Janeiro, at a date that it was not explained.
