Born in the town of Cachoeira, the August 31, 1882, his parents being Francis and Amelia Maltez Pereira Guimarães Maltez of Glory. Two of the couple's eight children, were physicians.
The elementary school, held in the city of Nazareth. The high school, the Gymnasium of Bahia in Salvador.
In 1915, he joined the faculty of the Gymnasium of Bahia, teaching Physics, Chemistry and Natural History. In the period 1926 to 1934 he was Deputy Director of that educational establishment, the board occupying several times.
Dominated, with ease, Latin, Greek, English and other languages. It was a great humanist, linguist and spirit.
He enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in 1902, by which he left graduate in 1908, the year he was elected valedictorian.
They were classmates: Dionysos Lima da Silva Pereira da Cunha Eduardo Vidal, Enjolras Vampré, Joaquim Martagão Gesteira, and Luiz Antonio de Aguiar. Dionysos Lima da Silva Pereira and Enjolras Vampré students were winners. The others, became also the school's faculty (6).
In 1910 he was interim coach of the chair of Physiology. In 1911, Assistant Clinical Gynecology. In 1914, Professor of Gynecology-free. In 1919, substitute teacher, for competitions, the 14th section. In 1925, Professor of Clinical Gynecology, remaining so until death.
In 1909, he traveled to the United States, where he conducted specialized courses in obstetrics and gynecology.
Was for many years, gynecologist and surgeon at the Hospital Santa Izabel, Santa Casa de Misericordia da Bahia.
Had as clients, important personalities, including a governor and a famous professor of the Faculty. "Everyone came calling, clinging to a thread of salvation for their lives" (4). Jose Silveira, was witness to one of those cases: "I watched Aristides Maltez one of the most difficult of his life clinical opportunities. The patient was a beloved teacher, Professor Adeodato. There was more to do. Science has gone into complete bankruptcy, but the strong spirit of the master's disciple Adeodato demanded intervention. "Do me this laparotomy, whatever the result! ". Everyone knew the outcome of the drama that was unfolding. Maltez attended, satisfying the last will of the beloved master. He entered the room pale deeply, because he knew what he reserved the operative field. But the hand was firm, and although adivinhássemos the tears, the firm did not look away from the scene in which he acted. From that moment, I just admired Maltez, I began to give her deep commitment and devoted concern "(3).
In 1936, started the biggest dream of his life: the fight against cancer.
Decided to create a hospital to alleviate the suffering of poor cancer of Bahia. He led countless fundraisers, and did everything to realize his ideal. The cornerstone was laid on October 25, 1940.
On January 6, 1943, Aristides died without seeing his hospital opened ...
