ANTÔNIO SIMÕES DA SILVA FREITAS*
Born in Salvador on April 30, 1903.
Conducted the initial studies in Salvador, under the guidance of Professor. Dais Possidônio Coelho, concluding in the Gymnasium of Bahia, where he was co-Hosannah de Oliveira and Carlos Morais.
He joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in 1922, and pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1927 (famous group, consisting, among other doctors, Alicio Peltier de Queiroz, Braulio Xavier, Carlos Morais, Eladio Lassere, Hosannah de Oliveira, Jose Silveira, Jorge Valente, Luís Rogério Souza, Lourival Carvalho, Manoel Ferreira Jerome, Matias Bittencourt, Raimundo de Almeida Gouveia and Thales de Azevedo).
"In his long and fruitful journey, Antonio Simoes, as was best known, there is exercised the multiple functions entrusted to it with proficiency, integrity, public spirit, exceptional dedication and uncommon humility" (2).
Antonio Simoes, said Jaime de Sá Menezes was a "man of the best public, Secretary of State provided to Public Health, Bahia, relevant services. Together we undertook several public health campaigns, and we admire the public spirit, competence, pride, always loyal to friends, colleagues younger, that he gathered. And he did so, too, ahead of the City Health Department, which pioneered "(3)
Conducted several courses specializing in urology and venereal diseases and practiced urology, with rare competence until 1960.
He was a founder and teacher, Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health. First President of the Bahia Foundation for the Advancement of Medicine, and founder of the Academy of Medicine of Bahia.
The Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health, owes her invaluable services, not as teacher but also for his work with the state and federal powers in the sense of its operation.
"Tailored to serve, gave themselves to good causes, without interest subordinates before high spirit and pure soul. He served with dedication to Bahia extreme, and knew to be a friend of his friends, which many senses and saw the grave download an illustrious son of Bahia "(ibid.).
He died in 1982.
