CLIMÉRIO CARDOSO DE OLIVEIRA

Born in Salvador, in 1855.
Pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1877, the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia.
Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery by tender in 1883. Lens of Obstetrics and Gynecology, by tender from 1885 to 1911. Professor of Obstetrics, from 1911 until retirement in 1914.
He competed for the chair, and as competitors Antonio Rodrigues Lima Ramos and Diocletian. Rodrigues Lima was approved in a place but, for reasons unknown, Climério Cardoso was appointed.
Students revolted. There have been rallies and concentrations in various parts of the city, protesting against the fact, which had nationwide repercussions.
Returning to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigues Lima was greeted with celebrations, flagged ships, and speeches, the speakers were Virgil and Manoel Vitorino Damasio.
Climério, however, was sworn in and immediately reversed the situation. "The beauty school scholarship and did the course of Obstetrics and Gynecology, one of the most celebrated" (Zezito).
The young teacher, vibrant and updated, the owner of verbal power, creativity and clarity, awesome, delighted his students and opponents.
Early enhanced the art of rhyme, transferred this gift for teaching, making some of his famous verses. Here, for example, as he warns against the dangers of certain presentations, during delivery:
                                           "Edema, swelling,
                                            Orifice narrow, stiff,
                                            Bodily retraction,
                                            Cervical neoplasms,
                                            Cord prolapse
                                            Embarrass, hinder
                                            Maneuvers version. "

Here, in a court of his own, the description of childbirth:

                                           "Decreases, stooped down, down,
                                            Wheels, stretches, it appears,
                                            Skips, runs and falls,
                                            Spins, slides in and out. "

"Pinto de Carvalho, himself a great orator, wrote about the teacher:" I was one of the first year of studies in this House when I felt like everyone else, the thrill produced by his rhetoric ... "And:" It was precisely this verbal charm Climério that attracted students to their classes "(ibid.).
Besides scientific works of recognized value, delivered Climério Oliveira famous speeches, including the funerals of Manoel Vitorino, the same fellow who rebuke against his appointment.
Climério bore no wounds, and all occasions, she was kind and tolerant.
He wrote plays, two of which are well known: "The Animal" (comedy in three acts) and "Motherhood." The latter was presented at the Theatre Saint John, with great success for the benefit of Motherhood that today bears his name.

Retired in 1914, died on April 8, 1920, leaving a zio immense emptiness that still disturbs us all.
