Graduation from medical school at 15 December 1952, the Faculty of Medicine, Federal University of Bahia. Award Holder Manoel Vitorino, with honors, because of high marks achieved in all subjects in the curriculum, initiated Carlos Bastos, from the school, a brilliant career.
In 1953 he was Instructor of Anatomy, in the Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health and at the same time, he apprenticed in the Surgical Clinic of the Clinical Hospital at Federal University.
Then, that is, in the years 1954 to 1956, did postgraduate studies in neurology and neurosurgery at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Department of Professor José Ribe Portugal.
In 1957 he was Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, Federal University of Bahia and remained in that role until 1976.
In 1958 he was accepted as full member, the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery and began at that institution, a number of participations in conferences, courses, lectures, symposia and round tables that the SBN dignified and enriched his enviable resume.
It is considered the pioneer of neurosurgery in Bahia.
