GEORGE DE ASSUNÇÃO ALAKIJA
George Asuncion Alakija, one of the largest is one of the most renowned psychiatrists from Bahia, has pioneered the use - amongst us - hypnosis as a therapeutic resource.
In 2004, he launched his book on the history of Psiquatria Bahia, entitled "The House of Lapinha and other stories."
Lee said Lamartine, in the preface of the book: "Dr. George Alakija, the oldest and the most representative among psychiatrists in office in Bahia, awarded the Order of Rio Branco by its high merits for cultural and ethnic integration in the Brazilian example and international relations with African countries, for over twenty years he took the chair under the aegis of the great Moreira, countryman and master's specialty in the Bahian Institute of History of Medicine ".
Baiano The Institute of History of Medicine was not the only institution that Alakija honored by your presence. Several other scientific and cultural institutions from Brazil and abroad, she participated in, always brilliant and effective.
One of these institutions was the Sanitarium Bahia, founded in 1944 by Luiz Cerqueira, Largo Lapinha number 27. Hence the nickname "House of Lapinha. Says Walmor J. Piccinini, whose name needs no comment, that "Alakija dedicated his book to the family first and three friends who lovingly treats the crazy man of the hill and the Count. They are admired today psiquatras Brazilian Luiz Cerqueira, Alvaro Pires and Nelson Pine Rubim.
The book mentioned, but everything produced Alakija, is worthy of praise deserved.
The Sanatorium Bahia had thirty beds and defended by Luiz Cerqueira motto was "the mental patient is always first." The first student who entered the Sanitarium, and domestic, was Alvaro de Pinho Rubim. The second was George Alakija.
While the family resided Alakija walking distance of the Sanitarium, the young man lived in the sanatorium, dedicated to the institution all the excitement. Even after graduation, which occurred in 1946, George Asuncion Alakija continued in that house of health, including exercising their private activities.
From the Sanitarium Bahia, Alakija dazzling career began as psiquatra, a psychologist, a man of letters, diplomat and a great pioneer of hypnotism as a therapeutic resource.
For him, "the trance is a state of consciousness where the person is not asleep or awake, is an intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness." Hypnosis, Alakija said, is itself a form of trance. And: "Between being conscious and the unconscious is a series of intermediate states, including trance. The individual "run" of what is around and enters a state of abstraction. "
The great psychiatrist died on June 11, 2005, leaving around himself an eternal remembrance.

Came, still young, to Feira de Santana and here, gray hairs already reached the end of its existence as arrived here: friend and selfless, idealistic and poor, giving them all what she could, asking nothing for themselves, requiring or asking anyone else. Professor, served as the teaching apostolate. Beletrista and intellectual, was brilliant in the many activities of her spirit of choice. And yet, the more adamant that this spirit flickered and was the refuge of righteousness attitudes, the reserve of moral forces, the grandeur of a flawless character, sense of justice, love to truth. A great, noble and illustrious citizen. "BIBLIOGRAPHICAL SOURCES1. Almeida, Damião de Oscar - Dictionary of Feira de Santana (2 ª. Edition). Fair, 20062. Bahia Coelho, Thereza Chistina - Dr. G.
