Born: October 21, 1872 in the town of Cachoeira in Bahia Reconcavo, his parents being Henry Praguer (Croatian immigrant) and Frances Rosa Barreto Praguer.
He had exquisite education and demonstrated from childhood intelligence insider.
Overcoming the prejudices of the time, according to which women were forbidden to practice medicine, he enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, pasting the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1893.
Among his classmates highlight Gonçalo Moniz Sodré of Aragon and John Goncalves Martins, future teachers of the Faculty.
To achieve his aim, he fought against the objection of the family, which argued that "Medicine is a profession of man, not woman."
Indeed, the first physician in Brazil was Rita Lobato Velho Lopes, state, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in 1887.
The Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in the period 1888 to 1893, he graduated three medical: Amelia Benebien Pedrosa (Ceará), 1890; Iphigenia Veiga (Bahia) in 1890 and Glafira Correia de Araújo (Bahia), 1892.
Frances was the fifth Praguer Fróes formed the traditional home medical education, primate of Brazil.
As a student, in 1892, was built of the labor ward, the Holy House of Mercy.
Graduate, had the obstetrical clinic at the Maternity Climério de Oliveira.
She married John Americo Garcês Fróes also medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in 1895. Dr. Froes Garcês won by tender years later, the chair of medicine and established the chair of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
Once married, Frances Praguer Froes, in addition to the specialty obstetrics, began the struggle against the limitations imposed on women ..
It was the first woman, Bahia, driving a Obstetrics.
Editor of the Gazeta Médica da Bahia, published several scientific articles covering topics such as childbirth, assisted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
In 1895, twenty-three years old, presented to the Society of Physicians and Surgeons of Bahia, a work based on her own experience: "Observation of a case of abdominal extrauterine pregnancy."
From 1903, began to advocate publicly the emancipation of women. In that year published in the Gazeta Médica da Bahia, an article, a real indictment against prejudice, requiring women to have the same right as men in medical schools.
His struggle for feminism resonated throughout the state, as well as the rest of the country.
Back in 1917, defended the divorce by publishing an article highly controversial.
Over thirty years, spared no efforts to break the hegemonic codes, and convince the Brazil about the need to emancipate women.
In 1931 she was elected president of Union University Women, and worked intensively with the Brazilian Federation for the Advancement Female.
Medical and feminist leader, gained national attention, being present in all corners of the country.
He died in 1931, while attending the Second International Congress on Feminist.
