JOSÉ EDUARDO FREIRE DE CARVALHO FILHO

ANATOMY LESSON

Born in Salvador, in 1852. "
After completing preparatory studies, he joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in which pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine on December 16, 1876.
He was named Lens of Materia Medica and Therapeutics, after a contest in which he defended a thesis on "Das Aristolochic and their therapeutic use"(1886).
In 1911 he was Professor of ordinary Therapy Clinical and Experimental, remaining so until 1915.
From 1915 to 1925 he was Professor of Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics and formulate Art.
In 1925, he was placed on standby.
He was interim Director of the School of Medicine and representative of said College, on the Board of Education (1911/1912).
Conducted a study trip to Europe in 1909 and represented the School in Latin American Congress, held in Rio de Janeiro in 1905.
In public life, was Municipal Councillor (1893/1895), Acting Mayor of Salvador (1895/1896) and Interim effective (1900/1903).
In the years 912 to 1914, was U.S. Representative.
Oliveira Sá says: "The Dr.Freire Oak has proven to be a man so sincerely dedicated to their beliefs about their duties as teacher and politician, who also judged the highest value" (op. cit.)
And: "As a politician and administrator, also was always at the service of noble causes and the high interests of the community" (ibid.).
In 1906, conducted a study trip to Europe.
He is the author of "Historical News about the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia (Bahia, 1909) and " Historical Memory, Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in the years 1909-1910 "(Rio de Janeiro, 1913).
He died in 1934.
