Little is known about Councillor John Hyacinth Alencastre, born in Bahia in 1802.
He joined the Medical-Surgical College of Bahia in 1819.
In 1833 he was appointed assistant professor of Topographical Anatomy, Medical and Surgical Instruments.
Lens in 1840 became owner of the same chair, and remained so until 1861, when he retired.
It belonged to a noble family of Portuguese origin, whose genealogy can not explain.
He died in 1868 in the city of Salvador.
