He joined the Faculty of Medicine, Federal University of Bahia in 1951, and she was graduated in 1956.
Resident in the university hospital. Edgar Santos, in the years 1957 and 1958.
He specialized in gastroenterology with Kurt Isselbach in Boston in 1959 and 1960. Doctorate in 1961. Became professor in 1964. Adjunct professor at the Faculty of Medicine, UFBA, 1968. Professor Emeritus, at the suggestion of the Congregation of the School of Medicine, Federal University of Bahia, shortly before he died.
"He was an architect of Semiology, taught how to examine patients in a thorough and careful manner. The initial approach to the last detail. Thus continued the academic life apart - but pragmatic drive, complete a model.
Outside the ward, are devoted to outpatient care, gleamed in the clinical sessions in its reviews of deaths in the sessions of Radiology, Surgery, and even more in sessions anatoclínicas - discussions correct, clean and lean "(Thomas).

With quick wit and encyclopedic culture, Gilberto Rebolledo was one of the most admired professors of his time.
It is considered the introducer of modern gastroenterology, Bahia.
Clinical admirable was, likewise, a great researcher. His work on schistosomiasis mansoni are classics.
