Born in Salvador, in 1845 and pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in 1866.
In 1873, he was Opposition by tender of the Section of Surgical Sciences, when he defended a thesis on the extraction of the fetus and the corresponding operative procedures.
  In 1887, he won the chair of Clinical Pathology.
He is the author of the Historical Memory of Bahia School of Medicine, concerning the year 1886, as well as the textbook intitilado "Lessons of Surgical Pathology, published in two volumes: the first, in 1892, the second in 1894.
