Offered every day meal for the poor in their own residence. To do so would send a ringing bell, inviting all those in need.
Always poor, because they used all their resources to benefit the health and welfare of the underprivileged.
His death on February 27, 1904, was a day of mourning for all residents of Paqueta. Trade and shut the doors and followed up their abode. The Fire Department Band, conducted by Maestro Anacleto (another illustrious paquetaense), performed the funeral march, composed by the maestro, as "last gift to his patron and friend. "
The name of the distinguished physician from Bahia was immortalized in one of the city streets and the Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters of Paqueta Island where John Pinheiro da Silva Freire is one of the patrons.
