JOSE OLYMPIO DE AZEVEDO
Born in Santo Amaro City in 1843.
Having completed the preparatory studies, he joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, for which he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine, on November 29, 1865.
On November 3, 1877, was appointed assistant professor by tender Accessory Section when he defended a thesis on "Polyatomic Alcohols. "
In 1882, it was Lens of Medical Chemistry and Mineralogy, Chair subsequently transformed, so was the ruling of Medical Chemistry until 1912, the year of his retirement.
In 1888 he was elected Vice-Director of Faculty and Acting Director, on several occasions. From 1898 to 1901, he was Director Effective.
Held various other positions at the Faculty of Medicine, such as the preparer of Pharmacy, Physics, Organic Chemistry and Forensic Medicine. We used an interim, he taught legal medicine, botany and zoology.
He was professor of the Gymnasium of Bahia, Interim Director of Public Instruction and the State Deputy Provincial.
Sá Oliveira said: "By its austerity, broad culture and great diligence, Dr. José Olympio, always showed an example of a Master, worthy citizen and efficient administrator"(2).
