He joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia in 1872, by which pasted the degree in Medicine in 1877.
Thirteen years after completion of medical school, he joined the faculty at the same university, after a contest, where he served as Adjunct Professor of Medical Surgical and Topographical Anatomy. In 1891, he was Deputy of the 6th section and, after 1898, Lens of Surgical Pathology.
Join Sá Oliveira Anísio Circle, in his Historical Memory for the year 1902, says John Agripino Costa Doria "was a clever teacher, capricious, hardworking and honest. "
Besides being a doctor and professor of high reputation, was John Agripino Dórea political prestige. He was President of the Municipal Council and, from September 26 to November 16, 1895, Mayor, interim, the city of Salvador.
Integrated, thus the first city council of Salvador in the republican regime.
He died in 1902.
