ANTÔNIO JOSÉ DE FREITAS
RING MEDICAL
Born in Salvador, in 1830 and pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of Rio de Janeiro in 1847.
By decree of 26 April 1855, was appointed assistant professor, Section of Surgical Sciences.
On November 9, 1862, was appointed Lens of Topographical Anatomy, Medical and Surgical Instruments, succeeding Professor. John Hyacinth Alencastre.
He belonged to the Council of the Emperor D. Pedro II.
He is the author of Historical Memory of the Medical School of Bahia (1863) and other relevant medical works.
It was retired in 1891 and died, according to Blake Sacramento in 1894.
IIvolino de Vasconcelos refers to Jose Antonio de Freitas, such as "surgeon powerless subtle intelligence that allied to a rare artistic sensibility, qualities adorned by lovely verve, the composition profile very nice" (3).
According to Sá Oliveira, Professor. José Antonio de Freitas was a "spirit worship and patriotic, which did not hesitate to march alongside many other illustrious masters, to the fields of Paraguay, in order to provide as really paid, extremely valuable medical services to their injured brothers" (2).
