JOSÉ DE SOUZA PONDÉ

Born in the village of Itapicuru, Bahia, in 1878.
He joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia in 1895, by which pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine on December 15, 1900.
During the campaign of Tizi, while he was in the third of the undergraduate course was built for free.
In 1903 he was appointed Inspector of Health Harbors, Sergipe, a position he held with efficiency and dedication until 1907.
In 1914 he was Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology Freedom when he defended a thesis on "A case of primitive neuroglioma optic nerve. "
Also in 1914, he applied to Professor Extraordinary Eye Clinic, obtaining scores equal to its competitor, who was appointed.
From 1916 to 1919, he served as Medical Assistance for the State.
In 1919, after new contract, he was appointed Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology substitute.
Visited Europe on a study trip, performing specialized courses in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
Sá Oliveira says that "Dr. Joseph Ponde was a true example of dedication to his specialty, which demonstrated profound knowledge, which, along with his impeccable conduct, love to work and brilliance of intelligence, put him in a situation of more high compliance and real admiration from his peers "(op. cit.)
He died in 1924.
