Born in Salvador, Bahia. The year of birth is not clear: according to Sá Oliveira, is 1854, according to Anselmo P. Albuquerque, quoted by the same Sa Oliveira, is 1855 (2).
Pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine degree in 1878 from the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia.
In 1882, he was interim Preparer Pathological Anatomy and Physiology.
In 1883 competition for teacher did the same chair, with the competitor Dr. Antonio Pacheco Mendez. Both have been approved but none was appointed, given the legal requirements.
In 1888, after a new tender was appointed effective Trainer.
On March 5, 1891, took office as the 3rd replacement Lens Section.
Being vague chair of Descriptive Anatomy, due to the death of Dr. Alexandre Afonso de Carvalho, Dr. Jose Carneiro de Campos, it was provided by the Decree of 3 July 1895. It remained so until 1919, year of death (1).
Conducted a study trip to Europe, when he specialized courses with renowned teachers, attending various services.
He is the author of Historical Memory, Faculty of Medicine, referring to the year 1905.
P. Anselmo Albuquerque, in its Archives of the Faculty of Medicine, says Prof. Jose Carneiro de Campos "descended from illustrious statesmen and holders, among which are: Dr. José Joaquim Carneiro de Campos, Marquis of caravels, which, being in the Kingdom, followed the Portuguese royal family to Brazil and was one of ten writers Constituent of our Charter, Senator and Minister three times, and then to the abdication of King Peter 1, was elected to be part of the Regency; Dr. Francisco Carneiro de Campos, Senator and Member of the Constituent Assembly in 1823; and Colonel Frederick Carneiro de Campos, a victim of the tyrant of Paraguay, Francisco Solano Lopez, in November 1864, when followed, on the steamer Brazilian Marquez de Olinda, bound for Mato Grosso, where would assume the duties of its President "(ibid.).
Sá Oliveira says that "Dr. Carneiro de Campos was a noble citizen and has shown throughout his life, superior character, great culture, very good man heart." (Work cited).
