THE FLAG OF BAHIA
*
"The late master Alberto Silva, in his book" First City of Brazil "(secular aspects), 1935, stated that the Bay" has no flag represents, not because your government decreed that in the record, creating some of the flag will constitute the official symbol and could be legally flown in public ceremonies and private "
This is a statement that it has not been challenged. In our research we did not find any official act establishing the shape of the Flag of Bahia
Despite these observations of the illustrious teacher, the use of the Flag of the Republicans of 1798, as an image of terra-mater of Brazil, has become a constant in public opinion, taking root in such a way the consciousness of the people, not governments had no alternative but to accept it as a representative symbol of Bahia. Reform it, after so long, would break a habit or a tradition.
The flag of the 1st Brazilian Social Revolution (War of the Tailors), has in its favor a collection of civic values. In this respect, Bernardino de Souza, another great master and founder of Geographic and Historical Institute of Bahia, made the following statement: "if you had martyrs of Minas Conspiracy, rapture of the dreamers who exchanged the Lira by the sword, here too there was Conspiracy - to 1798, and was in Bahia that a king mater violating the meritorious traced the 1st. Formula emancipation of Brazil, tearing the curtains of ruinous trade monopoly that locked the doors and the flags of the world until she closed the spirits of the aspirations of a free life. "
Alberto Silva wanted to Bahia adopt as its symbol the Bahian Federalist Flag, 1832, flown on 27 April that year, the Fort of the Sea
Given these facts, Alberto Silva Braz do Amaral and thought: "people who organized the flag that flies today as Bahia were not knowledgeable of the abovementioned events."
Alberto Silva, fail to "adopt, perhaps forever, the Flag that we create our own dream and the flag of a movement that arose ours." Went further, found the flag in place, as the alien character, symbolizing a foreign federalism.
Moreover, the republican ideal has always had its place in the consciousness of the Brazilian people, as it was a living force of the entire American continent.
While the revolution of 1793 in Bahia was based on a platform philosophical, doctrinal and humanist, not seeking revenge against anyone, the other a federalist, 1832 and 833, including the planned firing of Don
Peter I.
Confirming a custom, the governor Juracy Magellan in Decree No. 17628 of 11/06/1960, reestablished with the use of mandatory Flag of Bahia, then in use in military parades and school.
As noted, the time undertook the official flag of the State of Bahia. "
