Born: March 22, 1880, in Salvador, and his parents John and Anna Adelaide Augusto Neiva Neiva
Completed the course in humanities, he entered the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, which was moved some time later, the Faculty of Medicine of Rio de Janeiro.
As a medical student, served in the Province of the Yellow Fever Prophylaxis, taking active part in the campaign to eradicate the mosquito that transmits the disease.
Completed medical school, worked in the Manguinhos Institute, where he conducted studies in the field of Entomology.
In 1910, he went to the United States to complete his entomological studies.
In 1912, Belisario Pena, conducted a scientific expedition in the interior of Brazil, when he toured the north of Bahia, Pernambuco southwest, south of Piauí and Goiás, from north to south.
With the same purpose, made with writer Monteiro Lobato, tour the interior of Sao Paulo, when he found in bromeliads, the transmitter of yellow fever fever.
In 1913, he spent teaching in parasitology at the Faculty of Medicine of São Paulo, where he became professor-free, in 1914.
In 1915, he went to Argentina in order to install the Section of Medical Zoology of the Institute of Bacteriology of Buenos Aires.
Created Horto Oswaldo Cruz, Brazilian medicinal plant, and in 1918, he joined the body of researchers from the Instituto Butantan.
In 1920, the Kitasato Institute invited him "to enter medicine and hygiene Brazilian" in Japan concluded the work was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun.
In 1923 he was appointed director of the National Museum.
In 1931 he was appointed Federal Mediator in Bahia. "Stand-power, engulfed in waves of political clashes, the government left the state after five months of high performance." (Sa)
In 1933 he was elected deputy to the National Constituent Assembly and in 1924, Congressman.
With the coup of 1937, Neiva is returned to the Manguinhos Institute and has published numerous scientific papers, many of whom were international repercussions.
Besides scientist, humanist Neiva was consecrated. Published "National Study of Language," "here, and Away," "Dreaming" and other works.
Died at sixty-three years old, 6 June 1943.
