He majored in medicine at the University of Coimbra, having been submitted to the contest, 1831, to teach Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine of Bahia.
That contest was the first to be held in our college.
Okay, took the chair in 1833.
After he was transferred to Internal Clinic, it remained until 1864, the year he was retired, seventy-six years old.
In 1855, he obtained permission to conduct a study trip to Europe for fourteen months for medical treatment.
It is said that "thanks to the progressive orientation of Dr. Cabral Polycarp, the congregation approved a request by banning the traditional use of handouts" (Sá Oliveira, work cited).
