Born in Salvador, December 18, 1913.
Preparatory studies performed in his hometown. In 1930, he joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, for which he was graduated in 1935.
Still a medical student, was built of Medicine, under the guidance of Professor Armando Tavares.
Once formed, was Assistant Professor of Tropical Diseases, headed by Professor Hector was Fróes.
Specializes in Haematology, a pioneer of this area, in Bahia.
With Menander Novais, created the first Blood Transfusion Service, Bahia's capital.
In private practice, he kept appraised clinical pathology laboratory, associated with Dr. Joel Leony.
Founding partner of the Brazilian Society of Hematology and several other institutions, has contributed to the development of specialty, and in Bahia in Brazil.
He participated in many congresses, national and international, on Hematolgia.
Hematologist's Hospital. Edgard Santos, Faculty of Medicine, Federal University of Bahia, associate professor at the same university and Professor, School of Bahian Medical and Public Health.
Died June 12, 1966, fifty-three years old.
Carlos da Silva Lacaz said: "A personal friend of Statius Gonzaga kept with him for many years of great friendship ties, admiring his character, his dignity and, above all his kindness and care for the poor oppressed by the disease. Several times, at his invitation, I went to Salvador, the beginnings of Immuno-Hematology, to discuss together the problems started with the discovery of the Rh factor and its clinical implications. On duty as a doctor, Estacio had no limits. In the face of suffering, seriously ill, always lively writing before a situation that I knew lost. Never let on, but any disappointment "(op. cit.)
And: "Estacio, from cradle to grave, was the same man: the whole man, which told of Aloysio Castro. "For the sake of simplicity and truth of spirit, shining like a terse crystal, where light is seen on both sides" (ibid.).
Among his disciples and followers, and highlight Hélio Ramos Targino Araújo.
Hélio Ramos became professor of the Faculty of Medicine, Federal University of Bahia and the Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health.
Targino Araujo went to Sao Paulo, an intern with Professor Michel Jama, becoming one of the foremost authorities in the hemoglobins, both normal and pathological conditions.
