Was born in Trinidad, in Bahia.
Pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1865, the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia.
They were classmates, Alexandre Afonso de Carvalho, José Olympio de Azevedo and Ramiro Afonso Monteiro, all teachers of the School, being the last two directors.
Opposed by tender of the Section of Medical Sciences in 1871. Lens, by tender of General Pathology, from 1875 to 1893.
Author of the School of Historical Memory, concerning the year 1877.
Drew up a Treaty of General Pathology, multivolume manuscript.
He devoted himself also to literature, writing a drama in five acts, called "The Raider".
Oliveira says: "Literato and poet of real value, teacher and speaker of great renown and deserved, yet it was Dr. Egas Moniz a real model citizen, the nobility of his character" (op. cit.)
He died in 1893.
