Born in Salvador, in 1855.
Pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, on 21 December 1878.
1st assistant chair of Clinical Affairs in 1882. Associate Medical Clinic in 1887. Lens Clinic and Policlinic for Children Medical and Surgical by tender from 1887 to 1911. Ordinary Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Child Hygiene, from 1911 to 1914.
It is considered the first Professor of Pediatrics, discipline created in 1842 (Barros Neto in Tavares, work cited, Caio Moura Sá Oliveira in the work cited).
Indicated to the government, by the Congregation of the School was commissioned for a study tour in Europe.
Author of Historical Memory of the Faculty for the year 1892.
"Spirit privileged, either by the brilliance of intelligence, both for the remarkable clinical intuition, became Dr. Castro Rabelo favor of a figure in medical circles of his time " (1).
He died in 1928.

The decade of 1830 was very hectic. Revolution, was the subject of all conversations in the city of Salvador.
They said the provincial government itself conspired. Secret societies were swarming. The press, too.
The plot meeting conservative reaction of the exalted, the Federalists in 1832 and 1833, the disaffected with the Additional Act, Republicans, separatists and supporters of the War of Farrukhabad.
The situation is extremely explosive, was aggravated with the escape of Bento Gonçalves, leader of the gaucho, previously arrested in Fort Sea (today, Forte São Marcelo).
The news of the escape encouraged the revolutionary leaders, mainly for Daniel Freitas, Sérgio Veloso, Alexandre Sucupira, José Joaquim Leite, and especially Dr. Sabino Vieira - the central figure of the movement.
Dr. Sabino Vieira was in Rio Grande do Sul, before 1835, and excited about the revolution came gaucho. He was a poor doctor, mestizo, intellectual, capricious, violent, uncontrollable, and ambitious. However, very popular, because he was charitable and welcomed with the same care, the poor and needy, the oppressed and despairing.
His library of more than four hundred volumes, was the most expressive of its time.
There were a few years earlier, was submitted to the contest, claiming to be a professor of Medicine.
Thus, he became the leader of the revolution, known as "Sabinada.
The rebels proclaimed the independence of Bahia, and created the "Free State Baiense.
Elected Dr. Innocent Galvão da Rocha, president of the republic. Dr. Sabino Vieira, was appointed Foreign Minister.
The Regency responded: Antonio Pedroso appointed president of the province, instructing him to quell the rebellion.
Commander John Chrysostom Calado, rallied five thousand men and began the fight against the rebels, who were defeated. There were numerous casualties on both sides.
Order was restored. The republic baiense lasted only four months - that is, 7 November 1837 to March 14, 1838.
The loyalists began hunting for rebel leaders. Sabino Vieira has taken refuge, but was found "in a closet, covered in dirty clothes, wearing only a shirt, and barefoot" ().
He was sentenced to death. D. Pedro II, newly crowned, pardoned political prisoners and Sabino Viera was transported to the jail in Cuiaba. On the way, managed to escape by hiding in the Farm Jacobina, in the Mato Grosso.
Became a friend of Colonel John Carlos Pereira Leite, his protector.
Focused on professional practice and as a physician, was very helpful to the region. Created a small newspaper called "The Bororo.
He died in 1846.
In 1896, the Institute of History and Geography of Bahia asked the family Milk, the remains of Dr. Sabino Vieira, translating them to the Savior.

Born in Salvador, on June 26, 1897, and his parents Maria José Peixoto de Magalhaes and Magalhaes Maria Isabel Guerra.
Has the primary and secondary courses in Salvador.
On completion of the preparatory, he enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, for which he was graduated in 1919.
Two great teachers have contributed to their formation: teachers Clementino Fraga, Luis Pinto de Carvalho. "From both kept him off life, teachings and lessons. Not hiding, before the kid regurgitated his great admiration for those two remarkable teachers, whom they held very grateful that both received "(2).
As a hygienist, he held high positions in state government: Director General of Public Health and Secretary of State for Health, among others.
"In politics, was a congressman, revealing himself an eloquent orator, whose speeches in parliamentary tribune, displayed their culture and their patriotism, the discussions always printing the stamp of elegance spiritual" (ibid.).
Man of letters, held at the Academy of Arts, Bahia, seat number eight, whose patron is Cipriano Barata.
At the Institute of History and Geography of Bahia "has devoted the last years of its existence, hard and with love, leaving with his death, an emptiness today remembered and wept" (1).
"Political, teacher, poet, epigrams, a brilliant orator and broad resources, was one of the most fascinating figures of his time. He had a humanist education was the most complete and authoritative in matters of French culture "(ibid.).
Died in Salvador on March 31, 1969, his burial being one of the busiest of his time. Loureiro da Silva says that the coffin of Francisco Peixoto de Magalhaes Neto "was a consecration that Bahia gave his famous son, to that on which, succeeding him at the Academy of Arts, said, accurately, Put Adriano:" It was Magellan Neto a scholar, a frequenter of the Latin classics and knowing Greek, enjoyed in the original texts of Homer and Xenophon "(op. cit.)

Born in Salvador, in 1796.Surgeon Surgeon approved and formed in 1820.
Tavares Neto puts the name of Francisco Marcelino Gesteira among the graduates of the eighth class, ie in 1819 (4).

Born in Salvador, in 1844.
Pasted the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1868, the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia.
"His life has unfolded in the service of the clinic, and the chair of political representation.

Trained in England, became the first optometrist in the state to monopolize large practice and no less fame, who took him to occupy, as a founder, the chair of ophthalmology, School of Medicine, enabled in competition with the thesis entitled "Eye disorders Symphaticas 'from which emanate sentences marked by the spirit of observation - the prerogative of an era in which, by itself, enough to search for and achievement of scientific truth "(1).
Took the chair in 1886, which had exercised free.
Extremely charitable, refused any payment for services rendered when they suspected that the client was poor, or economically needy. His humanitarian spirit has created unusual situations. Count those deprived of their intimacy that often, not only refused payment as withdrawing their savings, some money, and offered the difficulty they faced. When someone condemning his conduct, accusing him of short-sighted, he replied - "I got credit, and he did not have it."
He gave his salary to poor clients, and would walk to college, to receive the salary the following month.
Staunch abolitionist, freed the slaves he had inherited.
As a politician, he fought for the cause Redemptorist, so it was elected and re-elected.
Ribeiro Taques revealed in his doctoral thesis in 1886 that Professor Santos Pereira was the first who applied in Brazil, cocaine as a local anesthetic.
He died in 1912, leaving for posterity one of the finest examples of modesty, humility and competence.

 Son of Joaquim de Castro Guimarães and Maria Eloisa de Matos, born in Salvador on September 17, 1857.
In 1873, having completed elementary studies, he embarked with his father to Paris, where Francisco Castro extended his knowledge and practiced handling the Gallic tongue, to the point of writing verses in French.
In 1874, he enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia and attended the first two years of medical school. He divided his activities between learning the basic subjects and the exercise of literary vocation.
Despite his passion for literature, has proved a gifted student and highly praised by their masters.
In 1875, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, enrolling in medical school in the capital. His intelligence attracted the attention of teachers Boniface de Abreu, Ramiz Galvão, Souza Lima. Savoy, and especially Torres Man (who was Francisco de Castro, throughout life, a great admirer.)
Should complete the medical school in 1879 but a serious misunderstanding between doctoral students and a professor of Forensic Medicine, led to Francisco de Castro returned to Salvador, enrolling in the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in which pasted the degree of Doctor of medicine, on January 13, 1880.
Graduate, returned to Rio de Janeiro, where he joined the Army Medical Corps, eight years remaining on it. Mo Army, fought relations with Euclides da Cunha.
Since then, prepared for the academic life.
Competed for the post of Professor of Clinical Medicine. "This stretch of his life, says Sá Menezes, is its most profound studies of wakes endless craving for knowledge, the eagerness to learn to teach" (op. cit.)
He lived in the chairs of Physiology and General Pathology, deserving of Torres Man commented: "Dr. Francisco de Castro is reaching the culmination of Brazilian Medicine!"
Human Torres died in 1887, Francisco de Castro, took over the regency of his chair.
Humanist enviable attended the classics with the greatest intimacy, merging, wonderful in their classes, frequent citations of Camões, Cervantes and other luminaries from the world of letters.
His reputation for workup, a pathologist and therapist, was well recognized and discussed. His students say he was a "divine teacher."
His first action was to conclude "Lessons of Clinical Medicine, Professor of Human Torres.
In 1890, faced with education reform, came to govern the chair of Clinical Propedêutica.
Redoubled their studies, intensified his intellectual activity, and prepared his famous "Treaty of Clinical Propedêutica" in three volumes. The third volume, we could not publish it: to examine a patient afflicted with lung fever has infected himself and in a few days died.
The death took him on October 11, 1901, in the full vigor of maturity.

Born: February 8, 1879, his parents being Francis and Augusta Calvacanti Mangabeira Mangabeira.
Undertaken preparatory studies, with rare brilliance, he joined the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, in 1895.
When studying the third year of medical school, there was the War of Straws and he volunteered to serve in the Army Medical Corps. He worked with great dedication and patriotism, standing on the battlefield until the end of strife.
